SC - Myrtle Beach...North and South

Our campground in NC was so close to Myrtle Beach, SC we couldn't pass up the chance to check out such a popular vacation spot and see what it was like in the winter!  We Googled North Myrtle Beach and we ended up in a nice little area with a beautiful pier, etc. BUT it wasn't the Myrtle Beach that so many flock to in the summer months.  So after we walked the beach awhile, we drove another 3o minutes to THE Myrtle Beach.  This spot was much different, shops (closed) and beachy ambiance...even a huge ferris wheel; however, both had a certain "charm".  The beaches were clean and long and I'm sure they are packed in the warmer weather.  Perhaps I'll have to opportunity at some point to check it out!

NC - Carrollwood Campground at Grapefull Sisters Vineyard & A Very BRIGHT SPOT

As I mentioned in my last post, we arrived in NC safely and the campground we had reservations for was very rustic and sweet.  It was privately owned by 2 sisters whose family has been on the property since the mid 1800's.

We survived doing a puzzle together...
GO, US...LOL

Now, THAT'S relaxing
by the fire!!! LOL

It was a gorgeous fire...go, Carl

It was a full moon on the 26th!

Their vineyard consists solely of muscadine grapes.  They are native to southeastern US and are said to be the first grape to be cultivated in North America.  The natural range extends from Delaware to Central Florida.  Their popularity continues to grow because they are a sustainable fruit crop---tolerant of insects and diseased pests and can be grown successfully without the use of pesticides. All 7 varieties that slid across my pallet during the wine tasting shared one thing in common...a very strong grape flavor!  We both prefer a semi-sweet wine and the one we bought was delicious!  We enjoyed our stay there and being so close to the SC line, we ventured out to Myrtle Beach one of the days...stay tuned.
Shasha

BRIGHT SPOT - This is an unusual Bright Spot.  It is one filled with great love and devotion to the doggie world!  Shasha, Carl's little dog had been having a great deal of difficulty traveling as much as we do.  She would get extremely nervous every time the engine started.  She couldn't eat for at least 24-36 hours after we got to a new destination.  After 6 weeks on the road, we decided it might be in her best interest to find her a stationary home.  Several possibilities presented themselves while we were in Maryland, but I believe with all my heart that the perfect one won out!
My sister, Tanya invited Carl and I to bring Shasha by to meet her other 3 pups to see if they got along.  If so, she'd agree to foster her for 4 days until another option became available.  As it turned out, not only did the dogs get along, but Shasha and Tanya bonded almost immediately.  Tanya felt like she wanted to keep her, especially since Shasha adjusted so quickly to the rest of 'the pack' and because keeping her would prevent her from having to adjust to yet another family.  It seemed like a match made in heaven.  After a little deliberation, it was final.  Shasha and Tanya would remain together along with Amy and their other 3 pups.  Now Shasha has a sister named Hazel, 2 brothers named Benny and Cooper and 2 mommies extraordinaire.  She has acquired a beautiful red hoodie and has been out playing in the snow several times.  Tanya has been sending pics and I've included a few here.  Thank you Tanya and Amy.  Love from both of us!

MD - My Birthday - Family, Friends, Food and Fun

Even though I was in MD in October for Matthew and Adam's wedding, it was wonderful to be back again in January.  I was there for my 61st birthday, too!  What a fabulous party!  Thank you my sweet children for all your love, your time and yummy food and to Rachel and Megan for opening your home to us.
My teeny tiny sundae...there's always
room for ice cream!

Aside from Carl meeting the kids, etc., I wanted to show him around a little while we were in town.
We hit Fenwick Bakery and had breakfast with my sister and Amy.  Of course, there were marshmallow donut requests from 2 of my offspring that needed to be delivered as well...lol.
Havre de Grace was another beautiful stop.  It was pretty cold, but the ice was gorgeous!  We strolled up and down the promenade taking in the views from the marina to the lighthouse and I was taking pictures, of course!!!

Aaawwwwww!

One afternoon, we met up with Matthew downtown at the Harbor and checked out the view from the top of the Trade Center...WOW!  The pics will speak to that experience.  Adam met us after work to have dinner and we did that with great enthusiasm!!!  We feasted at Kona Grill with meals so beautiful, we almost hated to eat them...almost!  LOL

I also had the opportunity to visit with a few friends who couldn't come to the party for my birthday.  Vince and I had a wonderful breakfast one morning...always a pleasure.  Dena and I had lunch at Red Brick Station...a long overdue visit.  And my PA BFF and I did a bit of eagle watching at Conowingo Dam...excellent!!!
Ice encircling the tree

Just couldn't get close enough to get

Then there was the birthday party!!!  It is hard to put into words how sweet it was to see several dear friends that I hadn't seen in awhile and spend some time with them.  Friends met new friends and discovered mutual friendships that hadn't been known before...how cool is that?!  Carl got to meet everyone and he had a great time, too!  Our time in MD was well spent...I GOT MY BIKE, TOO...YIPPEE!!!!!

When the impending blizzard became a real possibility with a prediction of 2-3 FEET, we decided to head out a day early.  We left on a Thursday evening, drove through until 1:30 AMish, slept at a rest area and continued on around 6:30.  Up until then it was smooth sailing...then the sleet and freezing rain joined our journey.  We were driving about 20 on I95 for hours.  The passenger side windshield wiper snapped and went flying off onto the highway somewhere...it was kinda funny...it didn't seem to hit anyone! So we stopped at a Pilot-Flying 'J' to get new blades.  We arrived in NC safe and sound, but that's the next story!!!
